For paddling with a dog, pick an inflatable board 34 to 35 inches wide with a listed weight capacity well above you, your dog and your gear together. Both boards below are 11 feet 6 inches long, list 450 pounds or more, and have a non-slip EVA deck pad.
WaterSportHQ editors have not paddled these boards or tried them with a dog. They compared the specifications each brand publishes on its Amazon listing, checked on 2026-10-22.
How much weight capacity do you need with a dog?
Add up everyone on the board at once. Editors’ rule of thumb: add you, your dog and your gear, then add 50 pounds. A 180 pound adult, a 60 pound dog and 15 pounds of gear come to 255 pounds, so you want a listed capacity of about 305 pounds or more. A board listed at 450 pounds leaves room for a bigger dog or a second person.
The listed figure is the most the board carries, not a comfortable load. If a child also rides along, read family paddle boards for a vacation.
How wide should the board be, and what should the deck have?
Editors’ rule of thumb: 34 inches or wider, and 11 feet or longer, so the dog has deck to stand or lie on without sitting on your gear. Narrower touring boards of 30 to 32 inches are faster, but give a dog less to stand on and move you more when the dog shifts.
Look for a textured EVA deck pad for grip, bungee cords for a bag and D-rings for a leash or a seat. Neither listing below gives a limit on the size of the dog, so plan on the capacity figure alone.
Two pet-friendly boards compared
| Board | Length x width | Listed max load | Board weight | In the box (listed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DAMA 11’6” | 11 ft 6 in x 34 in x 6 in | 450 lb | Not listed | Hand pump with gauge, one paddle, leash, bag |
| SereneLife XL 11’6” or 11’ | 11 ft 6 in x 35 in, or 11 ft x 33 in | 485 lb, or 440 lb | 31.7 lb (as listed) | Hand pump, 3-piece paddle, leash, fins, repair kit, backpack |
Each figure comes from the brand’s Amazon listing, linked under each board. “Not listed” means the listing gives no figure.
DAMA 11’6”: titled for two people and pets
The DAMA listing is titled “for 2+1 People and Pets” and lists 11 feet 6 inches by 34 inches by 6 inches with a 450 pound capacity. It is drop-stitch PVC with an EVA deck pad, a widened front bungee for a bag, and four steel D-rings. The box holds a floating single-sided paddle, a hand pump with a gauge, a leash, a wrench and a shoulder-strap bag, with a 2 year warranty. The listing gives no board weight and no maximum PSI.
It comes with one paddle, so a second paddler needs their own. The listing says nothing about how large a dog it suits.

SereneLife XL: the most capacity, in two sizes
SereneLife calls this board “pet-friendly” and lists it in two sizes: 11 feet 6 inches by 35 inches at 485 pounds, and 11 feet by 33 inches at 440 pounds. The bullets describe a non-slip EVA deck pad that is “anti-scratch for regular use”, double-welded seams and three bottom fins. The kit has a double-action hand pump, a 3-piece aluminum paddle, a leash, removable fins, a repair kit and a backpack. The listing gives 31.7 pounds as the item weight.
At about 32 pounds it is a heavier carry than most boards. The link opens the main listing on one size, so check the size menu before you buy.

Before you buy
- Gear: neither kit lists a dog life jacket, a ramp or a traction mat. Editors’ rule of thumb: buy those separately, and let the dog try the board on land and in shallow water first.
- Paddle: both kits list one paddle.
- Pump: both list a hand pump. Editors’ rule of thumb: inflating a board this size by hand takes several minutes.
- Other boards: for more choices, read inflatable paddle boards compared. Its width and capacity table applies to a dog too.
