Kayak Accessories: Cart, Seat, Anchor and Roof Carrier

Four accessories solve the most common kayak problems: a cart for carrying the boat to the water, a seat for comfort, an anchor kit for staying put while you fish or rest, and a roof carrier for getting the kayak on the car. This page lists one product for each, with the limits the listing gives.

WaterSportHQ editors have not used these products. The details come from each maker’s Amazon listing, checked on 2026-10-22. Where a listing contradicts itself, the page says so.

Kayak cart: RAILBLAZA C-Tug

The listing gives a 260 pound load capacity, two solid puncture-free wheels with a rubber tread, an adjustable kickstand and rubberized hull pads that “conform to the shape of your kayak or canoe”. The body is reinforced composite with stainless steel axle parts, and the listing says the cart assembles and comes apart for storage. It does not give the wheel diameter or the longest kayak it suits.

Editors’ rule of thumb: a cart helps most on a long walk to the water or on sand and gravel; for a short carry to the water it adds one more thing to store. Skip it if your kayak is heavier than 260 pounds with gear.

Kayak seat: Pelican PS0480-3

Pelican lists this as a universal seat for most sit-on-top kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, in water-repellent nylon with foam, with a multi-adjustment strap system and a back about 15 inches wide. The straps attach to D-rings. The bullets say it “may require the accessory mounting kit PS1015-2”, while the A+ copy says it requires pre-installed fasteners (PS1368), so check which your kayak needs. The dimensions and weight (1.64 or 1.7 pounds) also differ between sections.

Skip it if your kayak has no D-rings or footrest points to tie into, or if it is a sit-inside: the listing is for sit-on-tops.

Kayak anchor kit: Gradient Fitness folding grapnel

The kit is a 3.5 pound four-fluke folding grapnel anchor with a 25 foot braided rope (7 mm, according to the A+ copy), a floating buoy, a stainless steel carabiner and a padded storage bag. It folds to about 12 by 3 inches. The listing says it “performs well in sand, silt, rocks, pebbles, weeds, and muddy bottoms” and names kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. The bullet calls the body cast iron, while the table and A+ copy say rust-resistant galvanized steel. The return policy is 30 days.

Editors’ rule of thumb: check the water depth where you paddle; a 25 foot rope limits you to shallow water. Skip it for deep or fast water.

Roof carrier: Yakima JayLow

Yakima’s listing says the JayLow carries one kayak in a J-cradle position or two kayaks vertically, “Holds 1 Boat up to 100 lb or 2 Boats up to 130 lb Total”. It is alloy steel, black, 11 pounds, with a cam lever to set the upright and heavy-duty straps plus bow and stern tie-downs. It fits “Round, Square, Factory or Aerodynamic” crossbars, so you need crossbars on the car first. The listing does not say whether the unit is one carrier or a pair, and gives no warranty.

Skip it if your car has no crossbars, or if your kayak is over 100 pounds. For carrying a board the same way, see how to carry a paddle board on your car.

Before you buy

  • Match each accessory to your kayak: weight and length for the cart, deck fittings for the seat, water depth for the anchor, crossbars and weight for the roof carrier.
  • Pick up a paddle and a life jacket first if you do not have them; for paddles, see kayak paddles.
  • For fishing gear, including anchors and rod holders, see how to outfit a kayak for fishing.
  • If you do not own a kayak yet, see how to choose a kayak or the sit on top kayak guide.
